Masked men with hammers rob shop in Hampshire

Masked men armed with hammers and metal bars threatened staff at a convenience store in Hampshire before escaping with cash.

Police said three men entered the One Stop shop in Sherfield Road, Bramley, near Basingstoke, at 0700 GMT on Friday, and threatened three workers.

Officers would not say how much money was taken but said the sum was "significant".

No-one was injured in the raid but police said staff were left shaken.

'Terrible ordeal'

The men escaped in a dark car.

Hampshire Constabulary's Det Con Jonathan Swift said: "This was a terrible ordeal for staff who feared for their safety throughout the incident.

"All three have been left very shaken but thankfully no-one was injured.

"This is a very rare occurrence and there have been no other offences of this nature in the area.

"However, I would still remind those working in stores where cash may be present on site to be vigilant when attending and opening their business in hours of darkness."
