Go-ahead for 'flood risk' homes in Emsworth

Plans to build 280 new homes in Emsworth, Hampshire, have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

Havant Borough Council's planning committee voted four to three in favour of allowing outline permission at a meeting held earlier.

Some campaigners had argued the proposed development site could be at risk of flooding.

Earlier this month 40 houses in the town were evacuated after severe flooding followed heavy rainfall.

Councillors originally met on Thursday to debate the issue but postponed making a decision.
