Four boys arrested on suspicion of arson after a large fire swept through a Hampshire building site have been released without charge.

More than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at 64 flats under construction in Gershwin Road, Basingstoke, on 11 September.

About 40 people were also forced to leave nearby homes for the night.

No further action will be taken against three 15-year-old boys and a 12-year-old boy but the inquiry is ongoing.

'Youths running'

Acting Det Sgt Katie Barry said: "This was a serious fire and many people were in the area when it happened.

"If you have any information that can help us, or know who was responsible, then please get in touch."

At the time of the fire, police said a witness saw two youths running from the area before the incident.

During the fire, there were fears the flats could collapse and two cranes on site were damaged.
