Appeal over woman knocked unconscious in Portsmouth

Detectives trying to trace two men who dragged a woman to the ground leaving her unconscious have identified three dog walkers as key witnesses.

The victim was assaulted in an area of scrubland behind Almondsbury Road in Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, after leaving a friend's home to go for a walk.

Police said a dog walker helped the woman, 44, after the 23 August attack.

"A man in his 40s was walking two bulldogs and a woman was also searching for her dogs," a spokeswoman said.

Det Con Joanna Morris, from Portsmouth CID, said: "The area of land behind Almondsbury Road leading up to the cliff and over to the chalk pits is very popular with dog walkers.

"I'm keen to trace these people or anyone else who may have seen or heard anything suspicious or seen the victim or our suspects walking around Paulsgrove during that Monday evening."

Both men have been described as having skinheads and wearing jeans.
