Southampton teenager charged over man's crash death
A teenager has been charged with causing death by careless driving following the death of a 69-year-old man who was knocked down by a car.
Richard Ansty, of Southampton, was thought to have alighted from a bus and was crossing The Avenue when he was hit by a Peugeot 206 on 18 January.
He was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital.
The 18-year-old, also from Southampton, was bailed to appear at the city's magistrates' court on 16 August.
Mr Ansty, who was known to his family and friends as John, joined the Royal Navy at the age of 15 during which he served on HMS Victory. He later joined the Merchant Navy.
In a statement his family said: "[John] will be greatly missed by the family he leaves behind."
The life-long Southampton Football Club supporter was the youngest of five children.
