Stroud death crash car 'failed to stop'

The death of a cyclist in a collision with a car has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission after it emerged the vehicle allegedly failed to stop for officers.

The 70-year-old cyclist was killed on Bisley Road in Stroud on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Three men arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving remain in custody.

Gloucestershire Police said "there was no pursuit prior to the collision".

The force added that it was still awaiting the Independent Police Complaints Commission's decision as to whether an independent investigation would take place.

Police originally said the crash victim, who was from Stroud, was a pedestrian.

They are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved a red Saab, to come forward.
