Gas has been restored to the majority of homes that were disconnected when a mains pipe was damaged on Saturday.

Wales & West Utilities said the supply to 209 homes in the Hesters Way Road area of Cheltenham had been damaged by Severn Trent Water engineers.

"We have now completed work to remove water from the gas network," spokesman Clive Book said.

Engineers have visited each home they could access to safely turn the gas back on and relight appliances.

Mr Book said approximately eight homes where the residents were not in were still without gas.

Anyone who still needs assistance has been urged to contact the company.

Severn Trent Water has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
