A hunt is under way for a suspect seen fleeing the scene of a stabbing in which a teenager died.

The 17-year-old boy was attacked at a property on Shakespeare Road in Cheltenham on Sunday. He died in hospital on Monday.

Gloucestershire Police said a male left the scene on a bike and is urging those harbouring him to turn him in.

Det Insp Ruth Mather said: "We know that this person's name is out there on the streets.

"I am convinced someone knows where he is and who is protecting him.

"Please do the right thing and call us."

Police have circulated the suspect's name to all forces but it is not being released publicly.

It is thought he travelled to Buckingham Avenue and Clevedon Square, where he got into a silver Vauxhall Astra, registration plate W488 XOB.

The car was later abandoned in St Luke's Place.

Det Insp Mather said: "I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the murder and remembers seeing either a man riding a bike nearby or this silver Astra being driven around to call us straight away.

"You could have a vital clue for us and we need to hear from you."

Police have stepped up patrols in the area to reassure the public.
