A man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was stabbed and run over in Gloucester, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Mark Andrew Dodd, 49, from Coopers Edge, Gloucester, will appear before magistrates in Cheltenham on Wednesday.

A 44-year-old man from the city was stabbed and struck by a car in Pembury Road on Monday.

The victim was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. A police spokesman said his health was now improving.

It was believed the two men knew each other and the attack was not thought to be an instance of road rage, the spokesman said.
