A man has been stabbed and run over in Gloucester, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Gloucestershire Police were called at 07:15 GMT to Pembury Road, where they found the 44-year-old victim, who was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

A 49-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Police have not said whether the man was stabbed and then run over or run over and then stabbed.

A spokesman said it was believed the injured man and arrested man knew each other and the attack was not thought to be an instance of road rage.

Pembury Road, which was closed to vehicles and pedestrians while investigations took place earlier, has now been reopened.
