M5 motorway closed after crash near Tewkesbury

Part of the M5 between Gloucestershire and Worcestershire has been closed after a lorry collided with a van.

The motorway is closed northbound between junction 11 for Golden Valley and junction eight for the M50.

South West Ambulance said it was called following reports of the collision between junctions eight and nine for Tewkesbury just after 19:00 GMT.

A ambulance service spokeswoman said the lorry driver was taken to hospital in Birmingham.

She said the driver suffered leg and chest injuries.

It is not known what injuries the van driver suffered.

Northbound drivers are being diverted via the A40, A417 and the M50.

A Highways Agency spokesman said the motorway was expected to be open by 01:15 GMT on Friday.

He added one lane at the accident scene had been opened to let through the "trapped traffic".
