Norovirus outbreak at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital's visiting hours have been cut after an outbreak of the norovirus stomach bug.

People have been asked not to visit relatives and friends at the hospital in Gloucester after several wards were affected by the infectious illness.

Maternity wards are not affected by the restrictions and children's wards are restricted to parents and carers.

The situation is being monitored daily but restrictions are expected to be in place until Monday.

Director of nursing Maggie Arnold said: "This is a precautionary measure and good infection control practice to protect patients and control the spread of the illness.

"I hope that families and friends will understand why we are asking them not to visit for this short period."
