An elderly man has died in a fire that engulfed his wooden bungalow in the Forest of Dean.
Concerned neighbours called emergency services when the blaze broke out, saying they did not know if the man was at home.
Firefighters went to High Beech Road, The Pludds, near Cinderford, just after 0500 GMT.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the man's family and the coroner had been informed of his death.
Beverley Booth, from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said the roof of the bungalow had collapsed, making the rescue difficult.
It was further complicated by the involvement of gas cylinders, she said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
