Forest of Dean tyre firm's second buy-out in a year

Jobs at a wheel and tyre company in the Forest of Dean are said to be safe, after its second takeover in 12 months.

Watts Tyre Group has been bought by the Swedish company Trelleborg, following a management buy-out a year ago.

About 70 people are employed at the Lydney base and marketing manager James Peak said: "There's no reason at the moment to see that number changing."

The firm was once one of the area's biggest employers, but began moving jobs overseas in 2003.

Jobs still based in Lydney involve wheel production, finance and administration. The head office of Interfit, the company's service arm, is also based there.

Mr Peak said: "It is not anticipated there will be a huge amount of disruption as a result of this process.

"The real headline for Watts is the production of tyres is going to have the financial stability of a multinational corporation."
