Crowds force Cotswold air show to close gates early

An apology has been made to people who were turned away from a Battle of Britain Air Show when record crowds filled the event to capacity.

The gates to the Cotswold Airport in Kemble had to be closed early because of the volume of visitors.

Saturday tickets will be valid for Sunday, but anyone unable to return will be refunded.

Spokesman Glen Moreman said the crowd issues would be reviewed and taken into account when planning future events.

Visitors doubled

"We're obviously delighted with the interest in the show, but the numbers are much greater than normal and, as a result, we sadly had to take the decision to close the gates," he said.

"I would like to issue a sincere apology to anyone who was unable to get in today, as well as to everyone else who may have suffered inconvenience as a result of the volume of traffic."

He said about 5,000 visitors attended the show - double the intake last year.

The interest was partly put down to the two giant Airbuses which were on display.
