South Gloucestershire Council to cut more than 300 jobs

South Gloucestershire Council has said it expects more than 300 jobs will be lost as it looks to save £36m over the next three years.

A council spokesman said it was already simplifying and standardising how it works, and that fewer posts would be needed to provide the same service.

"It is expected that the number of back-office posts will be reduced by around 317," he said.

The spokesman said there would be opportunities for redeployment.

"The council is taking all possible steps to minimise the number of staff leaving the organisation," he said.

"Along with many other councils across the country, the authority needs to find savings and last year the council started its transformation programme to help achieve this."
