Vandals sprayed offensive language on the side of a horse during a raid at its stables.

Owner Mollie Marie Savage found equipment had been strewn around when she arrived at the stables on Canvey Island in Essex and the animal was nowhere to be seen.

"I started crying and trying to find him," she said.

The horse had escaped to a nearby field and had been daubed with antiseptic spray.

Ms Savage said the spray, which had been in a tack room cupboard, was normally used to treat cuts and wounds.
