A 42-year-old woman, accused of urinating on a war memorial, has been remanded in custody.

Kelly Martin, of no fixed address, denied outraging public decency on 1 July when she appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court earlier.

She was charged after photos were posted on social media appearing to show an individual urinating against a war memorial in Grays.

A provisional trial date has been set for 16 August.

She will next appear via video link from a jail in Peterborough on 6 July.

The 1 July also marked the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
