A man has been charged in connection with a car crash in which a vehicle ended up stuck on a railway line in Essex.

A silver Ford Fiesta went through a chain link fence near Stanford-le-Hope at about 21:30 GMT on Monday.

Train services were stopped for several hours while the vehicle was removed. No-one was trapped or injured.

Essex Police said an 18-year-old Tilbury man had been charged with a number of offences.

They include driving without due care and attention, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.

He is due to appear before magistrates in Basildon next month.
