A traffic policeman has pleaded guilty to careless driving after a crash in which a woman's foot was crushed and her daughter injured.

PC Paul Calpin, 44, of Laindon Roads Policing Unit in Essex, appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

He admitted driving without due care and attention in connection with a crash at a Bowers Gifford roundabout in May.

The case has been adjourned to 2 December.

The officer was driving a marked BMW 530 when it collided with the woman's Audi A3 at Sadlers Farm roundabout.

Her right foot was crushed in the crash.

The woman's husband and her five-year-old daughter, who suffered minor injuries, were also in the car.

PC Calpin was with a colleague when the collision happened at about 12:55 BST on 4 May. Both officers sustained minor cuts and muscular injuries.
