Colchester man admits taking First bus from depot

A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to taking a bus from an Essex depot and driving it while drunk.

Ashley Barrell of Charles Pell Road, Colchester, was charged following the incident on 23 August.

A First bus was taken from Magdalen Street, Colchester and was stopped in Avon Way 20 minutes later.

He was sentenced to four months in a young offenders' institution and banned from holding a driving licence for 18 months.

Appearing at Colchester Magistrates' Court, Barrell was also given a three month sentence, to serve concurrently, for drink driving.

Two further offences, of not having insurance of a driving licence, were dropped.
