Former N-Dubz singer Dappy 'slapped man' at Essex club
Former N-Dubz member Dappy slapped a man outside a nightclub, a court has heard.
George Chittock alleged he was attacked by the singer after a "meet and greet" at Chicago's in Chelmsford, Essex, at about 02:00 GMT on 27 February.
Dappy, 27, of St Albans, Hertfordshire, is appearing at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court under his real name Dino Costas Contostavlos.
Mr Contostavlos denies assault by beating.
Prosecutor Jaqueline Carey told the court he and Mr Chittock were in a smoking area along with a minder and two of the club's door staff when the alleged incident happened.
The performer was later arrested by police and claimed he acted in self-defence.
Ms Carey said: "When the defendant lashed out, he was not under any threat or any perceived threat of violence.
"The CCTV suggests he had no genuine and honest belief that he needed to use force to defend himself."
She said Mr Contostavlos claimed Mr Chittock had been abusive towards him a number of times.
Comedian Jim Davidson turned up outside court to show support for Mr Contostavlos, whom he met on reality show Celebrity Big Brother.
"Dappy is a good friend of mine, we became close on Big Brother," he told reporters.
"I don't know what's happened in this case but I'm just here to show him my support."
The trial continues.
