The mother of a 23-year-old woman found fatally stabbed says she doubts she will "ever recover" from the death.

Kirsty Humphrey, 23, was found dead in Queen Elizabeth Way, Colchester, at about 07:30 BST last Wednesday.

The mother-of-one died from stab wounds to her neck and chest. Mark Czapla, also from Queen Elizabeth Way, has been accused of her murder.

Her mother Nicky Humphrey and stepfather Michael Plane said: "A light went out the day when Kirsty died."

The couple described Ms Humphrey as a "beautiful person who was happy and always smiling".

They said: "Kirsty loved her baby daughter so much and was a truly caring mum who always put her first.

"The lives of my family and friends have been shattered, along with Kirsty's friends, and will never be the same again."

Mr Czapla was remanded in custody until 18 November when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court.
