A couple have won £5.8m in the National Lottery just weeks after one of them lost their job.

Tracy Tyler and Adam Young, of Epping, Essex were struggling to pay their rent and were two weeks from having to ask friends and family for financial help.

But while watching the television drama Casualty on Saturday, Ms Tyler checked the Lotto ticket and learned they had all six numbers.

The couple say they have not yet spent a penny of their winnings.

Mr Young, 30, who was made redundant by an electronics wholesaling firm at the end of May, said: "It has been a real struggle.

"We've been worrying about the rent and the basic bills that we've got to pay because I haven't had any money coming in.

"Now it will be a lot easier."

He said he did not initially believe Ms Tyler when she told him they had won.

"It has been an eventful week," he said.

Ms Tyler, 37, said their children - a daughter aged six and a son aged four - were yet to ask for anything.
