A 26-year-old man has been cleared of murdering a man at a party in Chelmsford, Essex.

Anton Jardin, 39, of Eastwood Road, Rayleigh, was found in the back garden of a house in London Road on 19 August.

Sam Martin, of Fairfax Drive, Westcliff, was found not guilty of his murder by a jury at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Martin had admitted manslaughter at an earlier hearing and will be sentenced on Tuesday.

The party was being held opposite the V Festival in Hylands Park.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Jardin died of severe head injuries.

In a statement released after the verdict, his family said: "Due to the actions of Sam Martin, Anton died a horrific and lonely death.

"He had so much to offer and his bright future has been violently stolen; it is so sad we never had an opportunity to say goodbye to him."

Another man, Clint Spearpoint, of Kelso Close, Rayleigh had also been accused of murdering Mr Jardin but the charges were later dropped.
