Chef stabbed to death 'protecting fiancee'

A man was stabbed to death after challenging two men who "pestered" his fiancee following a classical music concert, a court has heard.

Reynald Duchene, 37, was at the concert in Priory Park, Southend, on 26 June with Paula Haddlesey and some friends.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard how Karl Wills, 22, of Cranley Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, who denies murder, launched a "brutal" attack on Mr Duchene.

Post-mortem tests revealed he suffered a stab wound to the chest.

Mr Duchene, of South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, was found collapsed about an hour after the concert.

The victim, who lived with his partner and her children, worked as a chef in London.
