More women can now be recruited as engineering apprentices in Essex after £371,000 funding was secured from the government and European Union.

Essex County Council said earlier apprentice schemes had seen 75 of the 106 apprentices secure employment.

Another 21 had opted to take further education courses.

Kevin Bentley, deputy to the council leader, said: "The money will be wisely invested to benefit Essex residents, businesses and young people."
