The family of a 59-year-old man who died while go-karting in Essex have paid tribute to him.

Derek McKechnie, from Ashbeam Close in Great Warley, Essex, was racing with friends at Indikart Racing, in Grange Way, Colchester, on Monday.

He crashed into tyres on the edge of the track and died later in hospital.

His family said the father of three would be remembered as a caring individual who spent his life being helpful and generous towards others.

Officers are still trying to establish the cause of Mr McKechnie's death.

The incident is being investigated by Colchester Borough Council.
