Bus passenger, 92, hurt in attack in Basildon

A 92-year-old man was taken to hospital after being attacked on a bus in Essex.

He was on a number eight bus, which travels from Pitsea Broadway via Basildon and Laindon and back to Pitsea, on Friday morning.

The assault is believed to have happened during the two miles between Long Riding and Eastgate Centre, police said. The man suffered facial injuries.

The man who carried out the attack at about 0930 BST is believed to be about 25, 6ft (1.83m) with short mousy hair.

He was wearing a light blue jacket and jeans.

He was with a woman, believed to be in her 50s, who had long blonde hair and was pushing a buggy with a young child in it.

Police said they anxious to trace and speak to anyone on the bus and would particularly like to talk to those who informed the driver of the assault.
