Man hit with hammer in Basildon burglary

A man was hit on the head with a hammer and had a knife held to his throat in one of two burglaries being linked by Essex Police.

The 35-year-old was followed by three men to Clay Hill Road, Basildon, on Saturday evening. The men attacked him and stole house keys and a TV.

Later three men, one armed with a kitchen knife, broke into a house in the Delvins area of the town.

They threatened a woman and threatened to kill her dog.

After the first incident, which happened at 1915 BST, the victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for cuts before being discharged.

In the second incident, at 0550 BST on Sunday, a small samurai sword and laptop were stolen.

Both groups of men consisted of two black men and one white man. They were all described as being in their early 20s and with slim to medium builds.

They were wearing black clothing, hoodies and tracksuit bottoms.
