Tributes to Essex cyclist, 89, who died in fatal crash
Tributes have been paid to an 89-year-old former member of the Women's Land Army who was killed on her bike in Essex.
Vera Chaplin, of Kirby Cross, was cycling on Frinton Road, Kirby Cross, on Monday when she was in collision with a lorry.
She was honoured in 2008 by the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown for her service with the Women's Land Army.
Her brother Stanley said: "She was a good hearted soul, and thoughtful."
Ms Chaplin was born in Kirby Cross and lived in the original family home.
During World War II she enrolled in the Women's Land Army where she farmed in Cambridgeshire until 1947.
A man arrested on suspicion of careless driving has been bailed until October.
