A man died when his car left the road and hit a hedge in Dorset.

The 44-year-old was killed in the crash on the A37 just outside Dorchester shortly after 02:45 GMT.

The road - the main route between Yeovil and Dorchester - was closed between Weirs roundabout and Charminster, causing congestion in Dorchester and neighbouring areas.

It reopened shortly after 10:00 GMT. The man's family and the coroner have been informed.

Sgt Nikki Burt of Dorset Police appealed for witnesses and thanked motorists for their patience during the road closure.
