Two-bus crash in Weymouth injures 18 people

Eighteen people have been injured in a crash between two buses in Dorset, with five needing hospital treatment.

The single-decker vehicles operated by First Dorset crashed at a bus stop on the Esplanade in Weymouth at about 10:30 BST.

Witnesses described hearing an "incredible noise" as one bus drove into the back of a stationary vehicle.

Dorset Police said both buses were carrying passengers at the time of the accident.

The police, who shut the road for more than an hour, said five people were taken to Dorset County Hospital by ambulance, while a further 13 people received treatment for minor injuries.

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that no-one was seriously hurt.

First Dorset said it had launched a "full investigation" into the cause of the crash.

General manager Simon Newport said: "Our thoughts are with those that were injured."
