A car and a van have been wrecked in a series of arson attacks in Dorset.

A former show home was also targeted during the incidents on the Portland peninsula, which are thought to be linked.

Dorset Police said fire was reported at the unoccupied house near Customs House on Castletown, shortly before 17:00 BST on Saturday.

A Volkswagen Polo was wrecked by fire in Ayton Drive shortly after 22:00, with nearby cars also damaged.

Three further fires were reported between 00:41 and 01:03 on Sunday when a Ford Transit van in Castle Road was burnt out. A hedge in Victoria Square and some rubbish in Coronation Road were also set alight.

Det Sgt Jacqui Gravenor said: "These incidents have all occurred within a small area of Underhill on Portland.

"While these incidents are unusual for this area and no-one specific was targeted, considerable damage was caused to numerous vehicles."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
