A large fire at a landfill site in Dorset, which has been burning for three days, has been extinguished, firefighters have said.

About 10,000 tonnes of rubbish had been burning at the Viridor-owned Trigon Quarry site, near Wareham since Monday night.

At its height the fire produced a plume of smoke that could be seen from Poole 10km (6.2 miles) away.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said the cause was not yet known.

The site was the scene of a fire in April 2015, as well as in August 2014.
