A new hotel and residential care homes are planned for a former hotel site at the centre of a row over an application to build a supermarket.

Developer Quantum Group bought the Sherborne Hotel site, in Dorset, and demolished the building last year.

Plans will go on display to the public on later this month.

In 2013, a scheme to build a Tesco on the site, which prompted protests led by former Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton, was scrapped.

A Quantum Group spokeswoman said proposals for the "boutique" hotel would include wedding and conference facilities, and an area to "meet, eat and socialise".

The 5.4-acre (2.1-hectare) site is also expected to include landscaped gardens and courtyards, she said.

Proposals will go on show at The Beddington Building at Sherborne Girls' School on 14, 15 and 16 July.
