A pedestrian has died and another suffered head injuries when they were hit by a car near the Royal Bournemouth General Hospital.

A 49-year-old Bournemouth man died at the scene of the crash near the hospital entrance on Castle Lane East shortly after 19:00 GMT on Sunday.

Police said a female pedestrian is in a serious but stable condition.

A Bransgore man, 25, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail.

The car driver and a front seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Christchurch, sustained minor injuries.
