Pedestrian killed in A35 Branksome car crash

A pedestrian died when he was hit by a car in Branksome, Dorset.

The crash, involving a black Chrysler, happened in Poole Road, near to the railway station in the town just after 06:30 GMT.

The 89-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Police said a 27-year-old man from Bournemouth had been arrested in connection with the death and released on bail.

Rhiannon Stroud, of Dorset Police, said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the manner of driving of the black Chrysler or a male pedestrian carrying a white bag immediately prior to the collision to call Dorset Police.

"I know a number of cars were travelling behind the Chrysler at the time and left the scene before police arrived."

Police said one of the vehicles had been described as a small silver car, possibly a Fiesta or a Peugeot.

The road was closed both ways for several hours to allow investigations to take place.
