Dog and owner swept out to sea from Charmouth beach

A dog is missing after being swept out to sea with its owner from a beach in Dorset.

The Jack Russell, called Millie, and its female owner were carried out to sea by a wave while walking on Charmouth beach on Thursday afternoon.

Portland Coastguard said it received numerous 999 calls and a rescue helicopter and RNLI lifeboat were scrambled.

The dog owner made it back to shore unaided and was uninjured.
