Stranded Dorset kayakers in helicopter rescue

Four kayakers were airlifted to safety by coastguards after being stranded for more than four hours in an inaccessible part of the Dorset coast.

The group got into difficulties at Middle Bottom Beach, near Lulworth, after a heavy swell on Sunday afternoon.

Two lifeboats abandoned a rescue bid as it was deemed "extremely dangerous" due to weather conditions and location.

Portland's coastguard helicopter was used to rescue the kayakers.

They were flown to the helicopter base and did not require treatment.
