Police investigating a serious assault outside a Dorset nightclub are keen to trace a man as part of their inquiries.

A member of staff at Club Epic in Bargates, Christchurch was attacked by a man in the street and required surgery for injuries to his ear.

The offender was sprayed with red criminal identifier paint by the victim and then left the scene in a taxi.

Police want to talk to a man pictured on CCTV shortly after the incident on 25 November.

The attack happened around 03:45 GMT after a group of men had been asked to leave the club by the manager and door staff.

Det Con Scott Brimicombe from Dorset Police said: "This was a particularly nasty attack on a man which has left him with a serious injury.

"I believe the man pictured can help us with our investigation. I urge him to come forward and speak to us as I am keen to establish exactly what happened.

"The red paint on the offender would have proved very difficult to remove from skin and clothing for a number of days."
