An image of a man wanted in connection with a collision that left a four-year-old girl from Dorset with a broken leg has been released by the police.

The girl was walking in Southbourne Grove, Bournemouth, with her parents on Saturday afternoon when she was hit by a cyclist riding on the pavement.

Police are trying to track down the rider of the bike, who they believe initially stopped but then rode on.

He is described as white and in his late teens or early 20s,

Police said he was riding a dark-coloured mountain bike and was slim with short fair hair.

Sgt Sarah Jones, of Dorset Police, said: "I am appealing for this man, and anyone who recognises this man, to contact me urgently.

"I am also keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and, in particular, anyone who may have challenged the cyclist following the collision."

The girl suffered two fractures to her leg and was treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
