Bournemouth and Poole councils to merge adult learning

Two neighbouring councils in Dorset that are combining their adult learning services begin enrolment for the merged courses from Friday.

Bournemouth Borough Council and Borough of Poole hope the move will save a total of £350,000 a year and allow minority interest courses to continue.

The departments are due to fully merge in August, ahead of the academic year.

Non-teaching staff are being relocated to the central headquarters at Oakdale Centre in Poole.

Each of the borough's two main learning centres will remain in Oakdale and Ensbury Park. Bournemouth Learning Centre in Ensbury Park will be open for enrolments on a limited basis through July, August and September.

The departments are already sharing some resources. A joint management team has been set up and courses are listed in a jointly published brochure.
