Military vehicle destroys garage in Portland

A prototype military vehicle destroyed a garage in Dorset when it rolled backwards as it was being unloaded from a trailer.

The 28-tonne armoured Ranger was being removed from a low-loader in Southwell Business Park, Portland, on Tuesday, shortly after 1800 GMT.

Police said a malfunction caused it to roll backwards out of control.

After destroying the garage, it stopped in the garden of a property in Reap Lane.

No-one was hurt in the incident but cars and fences were also damaged.

The vehicle had been designed and built by Universal Engineering, Weymouth.
