Pet dog rescued from large Dorset house fire

About 35 firefighters have tackled a large fire in a detached home in west Dorset, from which a pet dog was rescued.

Crews in seven engines were called to the house in The Street, Charmouth, on Thursday night.

Both floors of the property were damaged and part of the roof collapsed.

No-one was inside at the time, but a springer spaniel dog was rescued. It took crews three hours to bring the fire under control.

Fire officers are investigating the cause of the blaze, which is thought to have started in the roof.

Crews remained at the scene on Friday to "damp down" the property.
