A 54-year-old Blandford man has been charged with the murder of a man found with serious head injuries in Dorchester town centre.

Andrew Quelch, from Dorchester, was discovered at a flat in High East Street on Tuesday morning by police officers called to the scene.

The 48-year-old died at Dorset County Hospital in the town later that day.

John O'Kelly appeared before Weymouth magistrates earlier and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear before Winchester Crown Court on Tuesday.

Two men, aged 41 and 47, who were in custody have been released without charge, a spokesman said.

Det Insp Marcus Hester, of Dorset Police, said the incident happened between 2345 GMT on Monday and 0815 GMT on Tuesday.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
