An Italian man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a woman whose mutilated body was discovered in her Bournemouth home eight years ago.

Heather Barnett, 48, was found in the bathroom of her flat in Charminster in November 2002 with a lock of someone else's hair in her hand.

Danilo Restivo, 38, of Charminster, appeared at Winchester Crown Court and was remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned for trial at the same court on 4 May next year.

Ms Barnett's daughter Caitlin, then 11, and son Terry, 14, discovered their mother's body.

Strands of cut hair that did not belong to her was found in her hand.
