Dorset fire service in bonfire warning

Dorset fire service has urged people intending to start bonfires over the weekend to contact them first after a number of unnecessary call-outs.

The emergency service had a "very busy" night on Friday with numerous calls about dangerous bonfires.

But a spokeswoman said the majority of displays had been set up safely.

She urged anyone intending to set up a bonfire to provide contact details so crews can ring ahead before making wasted journeys.

The service did put out a small number of fires which they deemed were out of control or there was a lack of safety measures in place.
