Paediatrician denies child abuse video charges
A paediatrician has denied downloading and distributing movies which showed serious child abuse.
Jonathan Walsh, aged 47, was working at North Devon Hospital in Barnstaple when he allegedly distributed the images through a file sharing site.
Dr Walsh, from Barnstaple, was dismissed in June after being charged with the offences.
At Exeter Crown Court he denied 10 counts of distributing and seven of making indecent images of children.
Each of the 17 counts cite a different number for the image they relate to - the numbers run from 27 to 241.
All but two of the charges relate to movies, the others relate to still images.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1 January 2014 and 27 August 2015.
Dr Walsh was suspended by the hospital in September last year when the police investigation began.
Judge Erik Salomonsen adjourned the case until a pre-trial review on 14 February and granted Dr Walsh bail.
He set a trial date of 20 March and ordered Dr Walsh and his defence team to file a detailed defence case statement within 21 days.
