A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives and of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Houses were evacuated in the Woolwell area of Plymouth after police discovered two suspicious devices when attending a domestic incident at about 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.

A Royal Navy bomb disposal team said devices found at the house on Woodend Road were not "viable" explosives.

The 56-year-old suspect from Plymouth has been bailed until 15 March.

Residents were allowed back into their properties later on Tuesday, as the bomb disposal team returned to the house and the property search continued.

Police said their enquiries were ongoing.
